First off, World at War came out 13 years ago. If that game came out today it would be hated. The FPS market looks nothing like it did back then.

Second, Battlefield and CoD are two entirely different games. One comes out every year, the other every 2-3.

Third, Battlefield 1 came out in a year when the one of the worst performing CoD titles came out. And if you took the multiple CoD’s that were released over the same supported lifecycle of Battlefield 1, the sales weren’t even close.

Fourth, Black Ops (2010) was in a historical setting and they were able to get as far and convoluted as they wanted. “Realism” complaints in a Call of Duty game come when people are grasping for anything to complain about.

Which brings us to the final and most important point. Call of Duty was never aiming, marketing, or implying it was a realistic tactical game. It’s an arcade-y fast paced game that prioritized smooth gameplay above all else. If you want slower clunkier realistic gameplay, look somewhere else. Do not compare it to Battlefield; the “realism” was always Battlefields selling point over CoD. CoD will not change because you want “realism”
