We had this bus driver in elementary school--those of us in the last group were friendly with the guy. We chatted with him, behaved well etc. On paydays, he would stop the school bus at Dairy Queen and buy us all ice cream. There's no way you could do that now, he would be fired and excommunicated from society.

Conversely, I had a bus driver just starting elementary. I was maybe 5 or 6. Someone on the bus did something, the bus driver blamed me and dumped me out in the middle of nowhere. Literally stopped the bus wherever and ordered me off. Most of this is from what my mom recollected, but I can vaguely remember crying, stopping into some store because I was stranded and didn't know how to get home.

Now days, that would have been on CNN. Back then, the bus driver had to apologize to my parents.
