Lotta people were stupid in this video if you ask me (someone walking up with a wallet chain or w/e that was... seriously?) but the problem is, no one there knew how to handle or approach the issue. I know it's NY, but this is more or less why I carry my .45 out in the field, or even when I know I'll be working outside to any extent. Wild dogs, even strays, can be a turn away from ripping at your limbs. Thankfully I'm in the countryside where it isn't a bother for anyone. (No I don't go around hunting strays, I'm cautious though when I try to identify them)
Especially so because I was attacked by a pack of boxers as a child. I already get a bit edgy whenever a dog over 40lbs get within 10 yards of me.
Dogs have a natural inclination to go for your limbs, I've been told it's best to hunker down to their level, keeping your arms tucked in close in front of you. Then again, that's only when they're on the approach, perhaps even trained. No one there was given, or found a long, blunt object. First to hit and daze the dog, and second, to entice the dog to bite down on it, or to bar their mouth once clear of its victim. No one attempted to wring their jaws shut, everyone including the ones trying to help, were only exciting the dogs even more by whipping and dancing around it. For all they knew, those dogs probably thought everyone around them were placing bets on which dog could kill the man faster.
This guy was fucked when one manages to entice the other to join no doubt. The behavior of the owner is why I also simply don't trust people with dogs. You're really going to bet your life or your child's that these people know how to handle their lab or pit when it goes wild? Those animals are adorable though! They wouldn't hurt a fly... I've trained them though!
Btw, you can easily overload the pickup mic of your phone by YELLING AN ADDRESS INTO IT. Calm yourself, and clearly articulate what it is you are saying. How do you do that? Think about saving that victim's life, and you blasting the operator ear won't get you any closer.
