Overwatch Support Guide

In those situations you still don't need to die. You can reset the objective safely and get out with good play. Especially for someone like Lucio or Mercy. Now lets say you have a really good chance of dying by going in and there is literally no one else to reset the timer but you, I would say that maybe sacrificing yourself would be alright. But if the game has boiled down to the ONLY option is that you and only you have the power to reset the objective, you've more than likely lost anyway.

And I would further argue that in those situations, especially with someone like Lucio, there is always a better option. For example, turning around and speeding your team onto the point instead of running in and dying in 2 seconds. The goal with this article is to make death a non-option, to force you to think outside the box when it comes to solving problems. I find that even in these situations, there was an option that would have worked that wouldn't have involved a sacrifice. And if you played the entire game with the mindset that dying isn't an option, you have a very high chance of avoiding that scenario in the first place.

And one last point, if we are talking about winning, and winning reliably. I argue that being in the mindset of the 3 D's will allow you to win more games overall. Maybe you playing overly cautious causes you to lose one round every once in a while. I propose that with the 3 D mindset, you will win many more games than you otherwise would if you viewed yourself as expendable. So if two support players with similar skill are facing each other, the one with the 3 D mindset will have a much more likely chance of winning. Because the other player is sacrificing himself in situations where there was a better way. And they would have discovered that way if they didn't see themselves as expendable. At least this is what I argue. I can see where there is disagreement. But in my experience, sacrificing yourself as a support rarely if ever leads to better results than simply supporting properly in the first place. And in my experience, if a support player is sacrificing themselves, it's because they are lacking in other areas as well and not embodying the 3 D's.
