You’re absolutely right— I am not looking for sympathy nor for anyone to feel sorry for me or my situation, I am only looking for other perspectives. I know that I showed him how to respect me at the beginning of the relationship, and that by letting things slide and accepting what I was being given, I was telling him that it’s okay. I guess the reasoning behind “I love him,” is that on one hand I believe that love should be unconditional and we should work through any issues together, but on another hand, I know that sometimes love isn’t enough if both parties aren’t willing to compromise for the benefit of both people.
