People who have never been in a relationship, what was the closest you came, and how did it not go as planned?

I liked a guy in high school, he liked me back, we went to senior prom together and all that jazz but I was raised in a conservative (catholic) household and wasn’t “allowed” to date. I also had curfew at 6PM so we never met outside school apart from school-related events. It was actually going great until right before HS graduation and he had wanted to get more serious (official gf/bf I guess) and I chickened out. I wasn’t ready for commitment (issues, I know) so I told him we could just stay friends. He didn’t take that so well and I feel bad when I happen to think about it from time to time but I know I made the right decision. That was 7 years ago. It just wasn’t a priority for me back then, and still isn’t now.. so yeah.
