Do people with 6 figure jobs get to actually enjoy their money?

Husband & I make just over $100k in a medium cost of living US city. Age 40ish, no plans for kids.

do you go out to dinner every weekend? Bars with friends? Happy hour with coworkers?

During normal times yes we usually went out to eat once per weekend and also met up with friends a a bar every weekend. I never really did happy hour all that much because I preferred working out right after work.

Vacation a few times a year?

Not really but we’re both also in grad school at different schools and our schedules don’t match up. Once we’ve both graduated, I could see us doing 1 big vacation per year (at least a week or so and requiring a flight) and a couple smaller long-weekend trips per year

Live in a mansion?

Lol. No. We rent an 800 sq ft condo.

Have a brand new car?

We share a 2007 Toyota Corolla. We’re in a major city with great public transit though.

Have a yacht?

Lol no but we have a friends with a modest speedboat and they take us out a few times each summer. I also have an inflatable paddle board (bought it used off a friend), does that count?

In my city, $100k will get you a nice lifestyle but nothing out of the ordinary that’ll turn heads. Also we recently paid off a lot of credit card debt so we know how much it sucks when you live beyond your means and never want to do that again. We’re also saving up for a down payment to buy a condo or townhouse of our own so we’re still trying to be somewhat frugal. But I will say it’s nice to no longer live paycheck to paycheck. I can buy something without checking our balances first. I no longer buy the cheapest option when it comes to purchase or fret over wasting money because something was canceled or doesn’t work out.
