Pet insurance isn't a good idea -- right?

I have two dogs that got very sick very often in the first two years of their lives. After they got better was when pet insurance started being advertised in Australia so I looked into it. It cost more than their yearly injections combined. I, instead, have about $2,000 set aside a year in case something does go wrong (one of them pinched a vertebrae this past month so that was a quick $400 to find out wtf she did). I've had almost no issues with the dogs since looking into it but the company I looked into it at call me at least once every six months to try and guilt me into it. "But what if they get injured?!" then I have money to cover that.

Plus our dogs live for freaking ever. Our oldest is 17. She just had surgery last month. She's a pug. She should not have lived through that. She did. It was $800 to have a cancerous external growth removed. Insurance feels like a waste of my money. It's really up to individual situations, though. If you can't trust yourself to have that pet fund, get insurance.
