PNG-born Australians fear becoming stateless despite years calling Australia home

This is very serious. this means no citizenship certificate is real..

like these people other Australians may have a fake citizenship that prevents them from applying for real citizenship.
They had the same grounds as Abbott so could have applied..
but they were prevented because the Australian government lied that they were already citizens.

There is now no way to be sure if any Australian not born here holds a genuine citizenship as it is now up to the whim of future governments.

The government of the day that issued those citizenships thought they were real.
So no assurance of government can genuinely help.

I am not a lawyer so am no sure if getting an official assurance is a good idea.. . Since what the government of the day belies and decides is no longer relevant.
It will be interesting to see the effects on other policies of governments not being beholden to past governments agreements.

It seems unlikely under the circumstances of the capricious acts of "government" acting without authorisation or accountability means we just cannot trust governance any more. ..

I am from an unbroken line of ancestors with properly recorded births since before federation. phew.

Anyone not born in australia or who was born in australia without at least one Australian born parent, is at risk now.
