Pros and Cons of RGD getting huge

This makes me feel bad for you and makes me a little mad at the art subs. One, you're not alone. I suspect many artists on Reddit would describe themselves as an "over-sensitive melodramatic type of person". We naturally read into things (that's what artists do).

While I know from experience that it's perfectly natural to think those negative things, you are most likely projecting them and people aren't really thinking that. But here's the bottom line: your feelings are real and if participating in RGD makes you feel that way – that's not healthy.

I know, I'm a fellow "old timer". I really enjoyed helping beginners and gave crits and advice but, telling beginners what they need to hear and not what they want to hear is not popular on Reddit's art subs.

I was so frustrated by beginners who rarely replied in their own posts or never answered questions from people who were trying to help them that I finally deleted my account. I haven't felt better since and for the most part I quit commenting on Reddit altogether.

I highly suggest media deprivation. I deleted my Reddit art account. Yes, I lost all my karma, but my frustration washed away with it.

RGD is the only reason and source of my improvement and I feel that I could never go back to draw for myself alone for lack of the unique incentive and discipline to draw

I would say that RGD is holding you back from growing as an artist. It's a crutch that's keeping you from finding healthier and higher reasons to make art. Don't look for validation from people who devalue art and want it for free. If you give away your work for free and are negative about yourself and your work – how can you possibly expect others to put any value on it? At least take some time away from Reddit and define success for yourself. If you don't define success for yourself then you are destined to have others define it for you.

I wish you well.
