Prospective Student Teachers: Teacher's College/BEd Megapost

I had the same dilemma and I ended up choosing uoft oise mt. I talked to previous graduated students from both schools and it's a small sample but every uoft student I spoke to started supplying and getting a job and every York student I spoke to was still looking to start working and find it difficult.

Like the other comment said, uoft has blocks of practicum whereas York has it once a week, which many of the students did not like because that's not how normal teaching would be, you would go everyday, so in that sense, oise seems more practical. Also, like the other comment said, the structure seems more practical.

Also too, with oise you are place in small cohorts of 25-35 students, rather than having a big class. More attention is paid to you by the profs. I also heard from a few York students that there are a few terrible mentor teachers (I'm sure this is everywhere though) and they ended up getting some and had to ask to switch and it messed them up.

UofT is more prestigious but that doesn't really make a difference to most employers. It is quite expensive but I felt like if I turned down uoft for York that I would always think "what could have been". That's my personal reason and just my personal opinion. If you want to pm me and talk about it more, feel free!
