Queen to receive government ‘bailout’ to top up income after Crown Estate hit by economic slump

Precisely this. The Duchy of Cornwall is exactly modern day feudalism. Few people take the time to understand its complexities and how it works, if they did, they would push to abolish the monarchy.

Sadly, “pedigree” still matters to many in Britain who also hold the view that the royals contribute vast amounts of tourist revenue from the selling of tea towels and china cup souvenirs and that calling “Her Majesty” Mrs. Windsor-Mountbatten would somehow bankrupt the UK economy.

Abolishing the monarchy would not erase Britain’s class divide overnight, but a republican form of government would at least be able to lay claim to the principles of equality and democracy.

Monarchy, on the other hand, precludes equality even as a pretense. There is nothing remotely egalitarian about a system that guarantees, by law, that one family will receive taxpayer-funded grants, free palaces in which to live, subsidized travel, wardrobe and luxuries along with special protections from criminal justice, (i.e. Andrew), barely disguised political influence, and the deference of elected politicians.

The idea that some people are born different and better by “divine providence” and therefore entitled to enjoy a life filed with enormous privilege and wealth free from hardship is a repugnant, dated doctrine.
