Questions about getting to blue belt.

A bit late to this, but I can tell you from the other side that higher belts do not want you in their classes. During the course of my training I have encountered several newer guys, and even some more experienced white belts that think that the road to ranking up quickly is to jump into the more advanced classes and mix it up with more experienced guys. BJJ isn’t as much about technique as it is about movement. At the beginning, it isn’t about specifically being able to upa escape out of other white belts’ mounts, it’s about learning those movements and the technique is the best way to show them. After those basic movements are beginning to be understood, then you can move on to effectively putting them into play by really learning techniques, and then combining techniques in even more complicated executions. I will say this to you: as a fast learner I understand your frustration. If you feel that your schools set schedule is too long, look for another place to train that will base your rank progress on their evaluation, and not on time/attendance. I got my blue belt in 7 months, and some of the guys I train with did so in half that time. Some people learn fast, some can attend daily, or twice a day; progress is personal. If you remain where you are, at a school with a set criterion for gaining each stripe/belt, then you have to accept their set timeline as well. If you change to a school that will promote you when they think you are ready, you will find it’s a bit less clear, but that may be a good thing. Then again, it if they don’t acknowledge the progress you feel you’ve made, it may not.
