Back take from headquarters…trying to get better at teaching.

Yes, I agree about being more specific and using terminology.

u/tobyle, I would like to add that I've found it helps students conceptualize and understand when telling them why you're doing something. It doesn't have to be long winded, just super short and to the point (that's key). Plus, as a bonus, it works both ways, even if you're not showing a counter, or defense, it will still register with the students and could lead to one of those light bulb moments.

Example, your lightly pressing forward... why?

You're lift your hips... why?

Keeping the knees pinched... why?

That said, it doesn't have to be every time you run through the technique (assuming you show it multiple times) before letting the students get work.

Typically, I'll perform the technique a couple times at speed, then run through it and break it down with a detail explanation (like, what I mentioned above), see if there's questions, then run though it one more time at half speed but with less detail, just the key points, like control the wrist, foot in hip, change you angle, hips off the mat... then break, you get the point.

That said, good stuff, love that last back take. Figure, teaching is a whole other skill, trying to teach and perform and relay proper technique to a room, possibly one that has mixed levels of experience, can be quite a challenge. I'm not saying my approach is the be-all-end-all, just rambling in hopes that there's a take away there for you, or someone else.
