Redditors, what’s the worst thing you’ve eaten out of politeness?

My Great Grandma used to make the BEST cinnamon rolls for our dinners. Sometimes I wouldn’t even get any because my family would literally run to get them once dinner was done.

This happened about 5 years ago on Christmas. Some backstory: My Grandma at this time was 91 and had started to develop dementia. She really was at the early phase of losing it which did come a couple years later.

My Great Grandma brings that tray of her famous cinnamon rolls over and I wasn’t missing out this year. I literally spring up as soon as I’m done eating and crack the lid open to scoop out the ooey-gooey goodness.

I take that first bite only to GAG once it hits my mouth. I play it off as a cough and continue eating because my sweet old Great Grandma is watching her Grandson eat her treats. Bite number 2 and I realize these don’t taste normal at all, almost chemical like... So I run to the bathroom and instantly begin to gag thinking maybe I got a bad one. I hear knocking on the bathroom door and my cousin yelling to let her in. I open the door and she is gagging in horror and throws the cinnamon roll into the trash.

So what exactly happened here? Supposably when my Great Grandma cooked these she sprayed the pan with Glade air freshener because she mistook it for Pam. Such a sweet old lady that I loved with all of my heart, but man those things were bitter that day.
