I’m in my early thirties, and tend to do things the wrong way ‘round. Started real life early by getting married and having my first child before I was 20.
I’ve been fascinated by medical science since I was a child, and decided when I was five that I was going to be a doctor. My husband is wonderful and supported that goal by working himself to the bone and I earned my MD earlier this year. Medicine is my job but also just my favourite subject.
I read a lot. Everything. Anything. The world and how it works and the history of people is just incredible and I’m so lucky to live in a time where I have access to so very much information.
Treating people kindly is legitimately one of the most important goals I have in my life. I’m no doormat, and believe that applying appropriate boundaries is part of that, but every day I make an effort to be kind. Whether that’s just smiling at people as I walk by or grabbing a sandwich for someone panhandling, or organizing an anonymous funding of a major need for someone, I make the effort because I know that most people are good and feel that people should treat each other nicely.
And I have been immensely fortunate to have met some incredible people over the years because I have this approach. I am not an extrovert by nature, but have had some wonderful conversations, the occasional meal or coffee date, and made some much-loved friends just by taking up opportunities for kindness.
