Redditors who quit your boring 9 to 5 to follow your dreams, how did you do it and how did it work out?

I worked as a Sound Designer at a pretty massive video game studio for 2 years. It was pretty much my dream job during school and I worked my ass off to get the marks/skills necessary to get that exact job. While it was an amazing workplace, I battled severe depression as I was in my back corner office isolated from the world for upwards of 14 hour days during crunch time. I'm a pretty social person so it was just something I couldn't handle anymore.

I ended up quitting and moving back to my hometown and living with my parents. Unsure of what to do for work, I started freelancing in Graphic Design. It had been a side hobby of mine in high school while playing in bands and making posters. It's been 2 years and I've worked with so many of my favourite bands that it still blows my mind almost daily. I primarily do t-shirt design and album art, with clients ranging from metal bands like Architects, Asking Alexandria, and Touché Amore, to more major acts like AWOLNATION, Tiesto, and recently KISS.

I've never been more happy than I have these last couple years. I get to work on stuff I'm incredibly passionate about and continually push myself creatively. I haven't regretted my decision to quit for a second.
