Religious or not - What convinced you of your current beliefs?

I grew up in a very religious household, but my holier than thou family was actually what caused me to start doubting the religion - I saw how two-faced people can be. And the idea that you are only a truly worthy person if you are religious and go to church didn't make sense at all. I just couldn't accept that a nasty person going to church is a "better" person than one who is truly good in their heart, doing good to others, but not religious. And all that bs about all the other religions being "misguided".. And don't even get me started on the views that that part of my family holds on homosexuality, different races... And then top it all off with patronizing attitude. But not to worry - I might just one day find my way back to God, as they are praying for my poor sinner's soul. On a more serious note - my best friend is religious and I am completely OK with that - we respect each other's views and don't try to force anything on each other. I also understand how, from psychological point of view, religion can be useful, but it is a choice and should always be a choice.
