Moved into one place that didn’t have hot water or electricity. Landlord wouldn’t let the agent call an electrician because he didn’t believe there was an issue- he blamed AGL. We couldn’t move in for 2 weeks so called an electrician ourselves. Power supply to the unit was blown and he said had we attempted to change any of the lightbulbs we would have been electrocuted. He had to run cables to the unit under us so we could have power because the landlord refused to have it fixed for another 2 weeks.

Another place, had a leak behind the bathroom sink inside the wall. Landlord insisted on doing all repairs himself and he was overseas for months. It got worse and ended up spreading through all the walls and under the floor, the moisture destroyed all our clothes and furniture. We had literal mushrooms growing out of the skirting boards. Had to keep a tub under the sink which needed to be emptied every few hours so I’d have to come home on my lunch break. Lived there for 6 months and it was never repaired. Also because he’d illegally divided the property, we weren’t able to get a phone line, and AGL kept coming out to switch off our electricity & gas because he’d fucked with the meter.

Another place, the landlord claimed the shower was leaking into the downstairs unit. Spoke with the owners and they didn’t know anything about it. I had trades people coming to “quote” on the “repair job” multiple times a week and had to be home to let them in. They ended up renovating the whole bathroom and we couldn’t use it for weeks. Then they said it had gone into the kitchen and the cupboards had to be ripped out- more inconvenience. A few weeks later when the lease was up the landlord wouldn’t renew- because they were moving back in. Turns out they lied about the “leaks” because they wanted to renovate it ready for when they moved in, while I was paying their mortgage.
