Request: how to stop the vicious cycle?

Games can be a fun distraction but that's all they are, distractions. You came to /r/StopGaming, I presume, because you were unhappy and/or unfulfilled with life while gaming all day and now you still sound unhappy and unfulfilled. Will going back to games magically solve this? I bet you the answer is probably not.

You should really examine what you want out of life and stop just going through the motions. By going through the motions I mean the notion of: get degree, find job, travel a bit, and settle. That's a perfectly fine and valid life if that's what you want but if it's not then don't set yourself up for that. So ask yourself, what do you really want out of life?

I don't think games are evil and I don't think you should or need to never play games again. However, there will always be the underlying level of being unfulfilled there until you address it. Sure gaming might give you that "instant gratification" distraction to make you forget about those underlying feeling but you are just kicking the can further down the road so you have to deal with it later.

Now the questions of "what will bring me fulfillment" or "what will make me happy" can be rather daunting to try and answer but you don't have to answer it all. It takes soul searching and exploration. Try new things, gain new skills, and search for new experiences. It's literally a life long journey. You're not alone and we all struggle with it.
