Review Megathread: Cars 3

Going into Cars 3 I was super excited. Unlike many people, Cars is my favorite Pixar movie to date. I personally enjoyed Cars 2 even though it had many faults. When I first saw the teaser trailer for cars 3 goosebumps overcame my body. At that point it appeared that Cars 3 would be a very serious movie unlike Cars 2. I felt like they missed out on that opportunity big time. Lightning’s crash just seemed like a bump in the road for him. I also find it funny that in Cars 2 he was racing a Formula one style car and yet he couldn’t beat a stock car. The development of the movie was predictable and also hard to swallow. The whole movie was about how he was trying to find his racing form again so that he could beat Storm the ‘villain’. It seemed Lightning’s biggest downfall was that he no longer was fearless, instead he worried that he wasn’t the best. The final race of the movie I found very disappointing, he just gave up and handed the race over to Cruz, who seemed to win her first real race with no issues. Right before the race starts there’s a little boy cheering for McQueen. This reminded me of myself when I was younger. Then right after that he dedicates this race to Doc. Then he just decides to hand the race over to Cruz. The movie would have been so much better if Lighting managed to win the race and then from there trained Cruz into becoming the next ‘big’ racer. Pixar really missed out on an opportunity to make this movie extraordinary by cheesing it up and making it less serious that it appeared to be from the first teaser trailer.
