the sheer amount of what they are willing to post on the internet is a big factor. at first it was just people being assholes for the sake of it, but the reactions chris chan would have were over the top. chris saying sexist, racist, and homophobic things both online and in real life gave people a justification. chris sexually harassed at least one female friend of his as an adult, and their email exchanges where she begs them to stop are all online. chris is not, and never has been, a perfect victim, and i think its interesting to debate whether or not someone who was a relatively benign presence for such a long time could change for the better. that was, of course, before raping his own mother.
