I think you have to have the right mind to it. I know 2 people that went into the military. One did it because he failed out of college and had nowhere else to go basically. After 2.5 years he ended up getting discharged for depression. He hated every single moment he was there.

My other friend it was his life long dream to be boots on ground and as he put it "killing terries (terrorists)" He ended up getting put up in some fort in Maine and basically had to watch a gate that nobody came to for like 12 hours a day. He also hated his life there and ended up lasting 2 years before getting discharged.

I'm not saying they deserve respect for their service, because the absolutely don't, they didn't do shit. But I don't think the military is cut out for everyone, you have to be willing to put up with a shit ton of bullshit.
