Sarah Bramblette's TedX talk, in which her weight is everyone else's problem

Wait, let me get this straight. Is she implying that because of her condition, the fat magically appeared out of thin air without excess energy intake?

I'll admit, I'm not familiar with the condition. It does strike me as suspicious that the frequency of the diagnoses go up in correlation with general obesity. Also, is it mostly water or other liquid building up? Is is legit fat? Because that makes a world of difference in how to approach it. Let's assume it's, at least partially, fat. Because obviously the woman in that video has excessive body fat, regardless of other fuilds retention.

How does it work? When you eat, does energy FIRST get used to create fat in those areas, resulting in you needing to eat more to actually fuel your body? If that is the case, well then it's a shit condition and I'm sorry you have to go through it.

But if not, and if your body still functions normally (first, fueling, then stocking the excess energy) this means you can have low body fat even with this condition, simply by not overeating. Maybe lipedema makes it so that most of your 15% bodyfat are all concentrated in your thigh, making it unpleasant to look at, even though you are at a normal weight, but at least you're otherwise healthy, and I'm sure it can be operated on if it's just an esthetical concern.

I'm confused by all this. The video wants to raise awareness on the condition, but it ends up posing a lot of questions and giving very few answers.
