On a reel where a woman was proud of her "progress" from fit to......not as fit

So I know a lot of major weight increase is due to mental health issues. This makes me think of something recent;

My buddy sent me a post of a girl's transformation putting on muscle (obviously using steroids). She was very, very pretty and in good shape but didnt look like she'd ever lifted or anything, looked happy in the before picture, and then was just massive and had the masculinization common with steroids. My buddy asked why she'd do this and while you can never be sure and you hope not, there are plenty of studies that show women who have been victims of sexual assault often alter their bodies, via steroids or weight gain, to make less of a target.

Again you can never know for sure but she saw gaining weight as "progress" makes me think something bad happened. I also gained a lot of weight to protect myself from trauma, and I'm a man and it wasn't anything as severe. But one of the things that makes me cringe about glorifying weight gain is you are dismissing thr fact that many people who gain weight suddenly are suffering.

Body positivity and acceptance is all well and good. But the mental causes can't be ignored just because we want to believe its a positive experience.
