[Serious] MD vs DO for Surgical Specialties. Which is better?

As someone else said, you should go to /r/premed.

MD school is the preferable choice for anyone who applies to med school. Many MD schools are public, they offer in-state tuition, they have research and residencies affiliated with them, etc. DO schools are usually more expensive and have fewer affiliated resources.

As a premed student you should focus on doing your best in your classes, extracurriculars, and MCAT. Your competitiveness will dictate where you should apply to medical school and whether or not you should apply to DO programs in addition to MD programs.

Applying to medical school is expensive. You should prioritize getting into medical school and you should try to only go through the process once. Spending a thousand or two thousand extra dollars to apply to DO schools will ultimately be worth it if you only get a DO acceptance and you avoid spending a year of your life reapplying to medical school.
