[Serious] Next Day Discussion: The Irving-IT Trade

I really think the Celts improved on this trade, and the Cavs may have gotten just a tad worse.

As great as an offensive season IT just had, he is an absolute liability on defense. There is just no way a guy that small can ever be even an average defender in the NBA. The Cavs problem wasn't on offense, it was on defense.

And yeah, Crowder gives you some versatility defensively, but I don't think it makes up for the minus on defense that IT brings. The Cavs will still probably cruise to the NBA Finals, but Boston may be good enough now to steal a game or two in the ECF.

As for Boston, Kyrie is an upgrade over IT, and they have some young guns to step into the starting lineup and see what they can do. For Boston, it all hinges on their young wings. If they develop and turn into studs, then Boston wins this trade hands down, IMO.

But yeah, for the most part this was a pretty even trade. Neither team got substantially better, neither got worse, and both will still probably meet in the ECF next year.
