[Serious] People who have asked Reddit for advice and had it horribly backfire, what are your stories?

Not entirely reddit's fault, I make my own choices at the end of the day, but I really wish I hadn't taken this advice.

There where a bunch of posts around October of last year in personal finance about leveraginga better wage from your company.

I was being criminally underpaid in my job (close to minimum wage) as I was handling 3 times the clients as anyone else in the office as well as doing a lot of shady work on the side for my boss (he'd give me his work to do and then leave at 1pm nearly every day).

I started sending off my CV and eventually got a couple of interviews. I took a few sick days and knocked out the good ones. I got an amazing offer from a company that was a 50% raise. They told me there was room for progression and that I would be handling clients like my last job.

I told my boss about the offer and tried to leverage a higher wage. I said I'd take a 25% raise to stay and he puts it to the people upstairs, to which they offer me a 5% raise, which was insulting.

I said no, work my two weeks notice and start the new job. Which turns out to be a call center job. Answering calls to customers. It was terrible and I hated it. But I thought the money is good I'll stick it out.

We break for Christmas and on the day before I'm supposed to return I get an email saying my employment has been terminated. I went back to bed for next 10 hours and just rolled about saying 'what am I gonna do'.

Now we're half-way through the month, and I need to have a job by February 1st otherwise I wont be able to make rent next months. I'm terrified I might lose my home and I guess I'll have to sell my stuff to make rent because if I lose this place I'll have nowhere to put them anyway.

TL:DR Switched jobs on the back of reddit advice and now I'm nearing homelessness.
