It wasn't so much seen, but felt and heard. I was on a mountain top OP. as we were bombing suspected caches of Taliban weaponry and fighting positions. We had a JTAC calling in F-16's to drop 500lb JDAMs on some caves. It was night time and I was pulling off guard duty with another soldier. We went into a little shack we built out of hesco barriers and sandbags to get some rest while the others stayed out to watch the bombing. I had just curled up in my wubby when I heard the tell tale sign of ordinance whipping through the air and the loudest most earth shattering bang of my life. The entire ground shook and my first thought was "Everyone outside is dead". I'm disoriented but manage to throw my kit on and check outside. I hear voices and shouting that the squad is alright. I'm thinking we're in for a hell of a fire fight because they're dropping mortars, RPG, or recoilless right on top of us. Our squad leader comes up and informs us that a 500lb JDAM dropped by the Airforce hit 80 meters outside the OP (which was nothing more than hesco and sandbags). We were lucky enough that there was a draw running down the mountain perpendicular to the edge of the OP. The bomb hit the wall of the draw running down from the OP and deflected out and away from us, leaving everyone unharmed but well shook.

I actually have the video our medic was recording of it. He was originally recording through his night vision but decided to get the flash of this one in the darkness. Here's the dialog leading up to the explosion in complete blackness on video:

"Oh shit they dropped that one from way back there." "Holy fuck did they drop that from all the way back there." "Yeah. That shits about to come zooming in right over our heads." BOOOOOMMMMSOFDHVOSDIHFGLK!!!!

I'd deliver the video, but it has one name in it and I have no clue how to edit videos or if I even have a video editor.
