I moved to Utah for work as a web developer while exploring the National Parks in March...
Landlord:
At the initial interview she asked me, "Are you one of those Muslims?" (I am a bearded Indian with an American accent)
Same lady charged me $100 more than the other 3 tenants. Said I can't use the thermostat. Gave me 30-days when she found out that I was drinking beer (not allowed in many places around here). Gave my room to a registered sex offender...but he was Mormon. I know this because the other roommates told me, he is required by law to tell them.
One of the roommates at that place:
30 years old. 5 kids. Child support for all of them. Former NAVY seal and supposedly a 'marine biologist with papers in Nat Geo' (I call bullshit). One of his turtles died and instead of burying him, he put him in the freezer. The same freezer where we store pizza and ice cream. I asked him, 'why?!'. He said, 'well, where do they put humans when they die?' Me, "Well, not in the same place where they store Rocky Road and 4-cheese pizzas."
I'm moving out of Utah first chance I get. I'll visit for the trails though, world-class parks here!
