[Serious] When was the first time you had experienced racism?

Sixth grade. Suburb in south Florida even mix of white, Hispanic, black, and small number of asians.

Our 6th grade class as a whole was broken up into teams. One for bad disruptive students, two for regular students, and one advanced.

I was in the advanced and that year they were taking kids from the bad disruptive group and dispersing then into the normal and advanced teams to try and get them to behave better.

They brought a kid to our team and he was a trouble maker. Would talk back to the teacher, pick on other kids, and would just walk out of class. That bad kid started picking on a chubby white kid in our class. He would slap him, call him pinky, etc. One day the bad kid and all his friends (all black kids) cornered the chubby kid and started slapping him around and calling him fat. The chubby kid wouldn’t do anything. So the bad kid and his group started yelling “Call us n***!Call us n**s!” I didn’t understand why they were saying that so I asked my high school aged sister. She told me they were hoping he would say it so they could beat him up and say he called them that as an excuse.

The same kid would always use that as his go to. Eventually he even told the teacher to “Call me a n*****!” He was eventually removed from our class. First time I saw live race baiting, but definitely not the last.

Also, my family is Hispanic and look white. My older sister married a Hatian man and have a daughter. Her husband is very dark skinned black. Their daughter is reallllly light skin and has long curly hair. My sisters husbands OWN FAMILY treats my light skin niece like a leper. They tell her she’s not really black. That she doesn’t have true black woman hair. That she has it easy etc. It’s pretty fucked up. Growing up Hispanic has shown me that it’s not just whites racist against others. Every race/culture/ethnicity/whatever has racism and prejudices against others and even more so against their own. It’s insane.
