They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? just released the 2015 edition of their ongoing list of the 1000 Greatest Films

You want an explanation for Mulholland Drive? Very simple. Read my response and watch it again.

[spoilers](#s The last 20 minutes are blond's real life. She has a relationship with brunette. Brunette cheats with the director. Brunette ends up with director and mocks blond at the party. Blond hires a hitman to kill brunette. Hitman kills brunette. Blond commits suicide. All of this is told non-linearly.

The 1st 3/4 takes place all in blond's head/mind AFTER she commits suicide. The old people from her hallucination before her death are guiding her into this dream. That's why she acts totally phony in this reality.

Brunette gets amnesia in the dreamworld to prevent her from ever meeting the director. She is on the way to his house. She gets amnesia/car wreck at the entrance to his place, she wanders instead to blond's house.

The director is treated like shit in the dream world, because he stole brunette from blond in reality.

Hitman fucks up in the dreamworld, because he murdered brunette in reality. Brunette has the purse of cash and the key because in reality these are things that led to her death, if she has them in the dreamworld, this tells the subconscious of the blond that the brunette is actually safe because the hit never came to pass.

The pair of guys at Winkies get fucked over because that is where the blond ordered the hit on brunette in the real world, and her subconscious is also punishing them, erasing them. The monster behind Winkies is her pain/shame. The monster is actually an old scary woman/blond.

Blond gets the roles in the dreamworld because she was a bad actress/failure in the real world and her subconscious is trying to fix that as well.

Things fall apart when they discover the body of a girl in the apartment in the dreamworld. Why? That is the body of the blond in the real world (with a different face), in the blond girl's real world apartment. That is the beginning off her subconscious/god or whatever telling her she is actually dead.

Why does the brunette wear the blond wig? Blond's subconscious telling herself that they are one in the same. Brunette is a figment of blond's mind.

What is Club Silencio? "Crying over you" plays, to again subconsciously remind blond that she is sad because in reality she had brunette killed.

Why does the host say this is all a recording, a tape? And why does the singer keep singing after she collapses? This is blond's subconscious telling her that this is a dreamworld/limbo brought on by her committing suicide.)
