Should Marijuana be legal? Why or why not?

I’m not equating drugs to murder. You said that, not me. It’s called an analogy, which you clearly understood perfectly fine, looking at the rest of your post. Let’s not try be intentionally thick for the sake of arguing, we both don’t have the time for it.

The issue with highly addictive drugs like opiates for example is that one exposure can have life-ruining effects. Rehabilitation is just trying to patch the glass back together after it’s broken. Prohibition is the solution in that case.

The argument isn’t that all drugs have a risk of addiction. That’s being intentionally thick again. The argument is that the risk of addiction and the degree of addiction with certain drugs is fucking hideous. The same way weed is less severe than alcohol, the same way harassment is less severe than murder, drugs that can be legalized are far less severe than something like heroin.

We’ve seen time and time again that self control isn’t even a factor after one exposure to certain drugs. We also know plenty of people make bad decisions once in a while, and industry often skirts or breaks the rules of what is allowable and safe. Prohibition is the only answer for risks where one careless step can completely destroy someone’s life.

I’m not sure what you consider a ‘drug’ but things like the stronger opiates or many synthetics will permanently fuck you for trying it. No one is arguing weed is a gateway drug to the devil here.
