Simple Questions - February 13, 2015

I'm working on my first build and I'm not sure that these questions warrant their own post so I will post them here.

Items I have picked out are -Processor: i7-4790k. -Mobo: Asus sabertooth Z97 LGA 1150 mark 2. -GPU: MSI GTX 980 (or G1 gigabyte) I know my choice is between these two but if you could shed some light on why I should choose one over the other that'd be fine. - some type of 1440p monitor. The Asus swift rog looks dope. Might buy a cheap 1080p monitor for now til my computer is done and built then buy the right 1440p in a week or so. I'll keep the shitty monitor for web browsing while gaming/streaming

The things I need are -Case: honestly have no fucking clue about cases or fans inside cases. I have a friend say his dream case is the thermaltake level 10 GT snow edition and that looks sweet to me.

-RAM: I'm going to get 16GB and Kingston is preferred because I just found out that the engineering company I work for gets 25% off anything on the Kingston website. This would be good to keep in mind if Kingston offers anything else for the build that I have no clue on.

-Power supply: what are you thinking, 800W to be safe? No idea brands or prices.

-I want an SSD, no idea on brand. If Kingston is available is it good enough brand to get or should I say fuck my employee discount and get the best one?

-if I have a 1TB external HD do I need anything besides a big SSD? Can fit all my games and OS on SSD then I don't feel the need to get another HDD but I do download movies and tv shows so might be worth it to just get another cheap one for the new desktop.

-Replacement CPU stock cooler: I was told to do this because the ones that come with a CPU are generally garbage? No idea on brand, pricing or if it should be liquid.

-I'm prob gonna stick with windows 7 since I have a copy already for a new computer. Might upgrade to 10 within a year or whatever when those details get ironed out (free upgrade from Microsoft)

-optical drive: do I even need this? My friend installed windows 7 from a USB. I'm a EE I think I could figure it out

-for 6 months I'm living with my parents and require a wireless card to get internet in my room. When I move for my job in the fall I'll plug in but I have no clue about brands/pricing on wireless cards.

Any advice on the pieces I don't have nailed down yet would be greatly appreciated! I'm willing to put the money into the pieces I have selected so if I can save some on the rest that's cool but this being my first build and I have my first big boy engineering job out of college and am living rent free at home for 6 months I can put some decent money towards this build.

TL;DR Have Mobo, CPU, gpu picked out and need the rest of the build. I'm not sure whats compatible or what's a decent brand and I'd hate to get screwed by a shitty SSD or something when I have picked out a really nice Mobo, CPU and gpu.
