Simple Questions: March 10, 2018

I have recently begun the practice of reading books in hope that it turns into a long term habit. But currently as I am reading I see that I partially read and mostly I am busy forming my own thoughts about what I read related to my life so most of the time I am not putting my attention on figuring out what the paragraph is actually saying. The issue is I am thinking it is not wise for me to change my attention suddenly without first understanding why is it I should read attentively. It would help if someone could point out if I am miss-applying the concept of learning before doing but if it is wise to do it as I am doing ie.. understanding the fault of not applying attention on what I am reading then go ahead and remind me that I am on right track.
