Yes - exactly right - but for all others wondering - this is an untested theory but I think I may be right, at least in part. Jessica Mulroney (former BFF to MM) is married to Ben Mulroney, who is the son of a very well-known former Canadian Prime Minister. Canada is a Commonwealth nation, large in size but small in population. It still, at least for certain generations - retains very close ties to UK - particularly among the elite. Canada being small that way, the elites tend to know and if not necessarily hang out together, kind of have an inner circle, much like the European royals. MM was VERY smart to cozy up to Jessica Mulroney - it's not Jessica who has deep social clout in Canada - it's her husband. Doesn't matter what party they belong to, politically - they are well-connected, all of them (this goes for Trudeau, too) so the connection to the UK doesn't surprise me. MM worked her way in. I lived in Toronto when MM was shooting there -local cable/local TV interviewed her a few times. So she was not a big name on the celebrity circuit, but at the local level, she was already climbing, worming her way in. I cannot stomach her and dislike her intensely, but as others point out, her ability to social climb is remarkable. I think she latches on / worms her way in with people she finds easy targets, less-well-known globally but have some clout, etc. She can't make a splash with the A Level right off the bat, so she starts in smaller markets. She is a piece of work. My theory.
