Someone's words shouldn't be given less credibility just because they make less money

I really enjoy reading magazines but I can't read anything relating to art because I take it too personally.

The things is, what's presented as thoughtful and important online, in newspapers, magazines, television etc actually isn't what people are feeling.

One thing that really pissed me off was Emma Watson speaking at the UN. I'm a fan, really I enjoy the movies I've seen her in and I'm sure she's really nice but holy shit. Can you imagine being age 40, having been educated at top notch universities working your ass off to be appointed by your country as a diplomat, only to have a 20 something actress come and give a speech about what you should be focusing your work on? Keep in mind, working on woman's rights is these peoples jobs, day in and day out. Scratch that, ITS THEIR CAREER, and what's the media's response?

They collectively lost their shit. Some actress gave a speech and got all the credit that people who have dedicated their lives to that work never will receive. Do I think they all merit that level of praise? Of course not, there's not enough paper in the world to congratulate everyone on a mass scale. However, I'm almost certain that, that level of praise that Emma Watson, professional actress, should've been saved for someone who actually works to improve people's lives.

Then it struck me, "should've been saved". How much news could their possibly be? The news corporation and media can't wait, for the next mother Teresa to arrive before they sell next months issues. They need to make money today, this month, and this is who is popular right now.

It took remembering that every piece of news I read is made for profit, especially the ones that focus on the arts and entertainment.

The media will tell you Kanye West, is today's Picasso because the media needs a Picasso for today, not tomorrow.

Every new young artist will have something that makes them special because it's a fucking advert. Whether these musicians need praise or we have to listen to them, it doesn't matter, the media needs to make money.

So really, the media (I'm really referring more to entertainment and celebrity shit) isn't telling you what people actually want, they're just doing what they need to sell. It's actually a really happy idea, once you learn to ignore them. You come to realize that nobody actually cares that much about celebrities because it's all fabricated to make money.
