Millions supported the war on terror from both common citizens and intellectuals. He didn't support the war to kill innocents, when did he ever say or support that? I'll answer it for you, he didn't. I just think you're upset that his work brings to light the terrible atrocities that have occurred on socialist regimes so you're grasping at every excuse you can to apologise for the act of despots and discredit those who call them out for their actions.

Or the USSR didn't want the world to see how fucked up of a country it was and didn't want to face the seaver backlash from other countries for their atrocities from being brought to light and that their ideology was a massive and murderous failure so they can maintain power of their people?
