Star Wars Battlefront Made Me Realize I'm A Cynical Prick (The Jimquisition)

I get hyped after release, when the game is good and I have fun playing it. There's no benefit to be being hyped by marketing materials pre-release and any self-imposed peer pressure to feel that way is senseless. It's being a responsible adult understating the value of money, it's making informed purchases. Fun can still be had, when actually playing and the game concept is proven.

Wanting to remain without any emotional self-control like an excitable youth is, unfortunately, lazy and childish. The world's most successful marketing methods are based on playing emotions to get people to make emotion-based purchase decisions. It's on us to be aware of that, not blinded to it when we have other much more important financial concerns in our lives.

It's just the reality of being successful adult in our current world. If that's sad, then the focus should be on discussing the way society handles commerce, not wishing we could go back to burying our heads in the sand in blissful ignorance. In my opinion, of course.

So I believe you're just a man with awareness, as guy 3. You can be that guy without being a debbie downer, if that group dynamic is what bothers you. Agree 'the trailer looks amazing and you remain cautiously optimistic. If after the release the game delivers on it's promise, we'll have all ball playing it.' This way you not being phony or giving into the hype, but you're also not shitting on their excited right out of the game with the "EA will probably hock stupid amounts of DLC and micro on it". If they are open to hearing why you remain cautious, they'll ask, otherwise you'll all just move on with your discussion.
