Stars Talk Candidly About Sexism in Hollywood (with Julianna Moore, Cate Blanchett, Ellen Page, Michael Shannon, Anne Hathaway, Carey Mulligan, Robert DeNiro, Nancy Meyers, and more)

I wouldn't say it's a coincidence. I'd say go check and see how many women are signing up for film school to become directors. There aren't a ton of women loggers. That's traditionally a man's job and most women probably aren't interested in going out and chopping trees. So is the logging industry sexist?

If there are hordes of women trying to knock down the doors of Hollywood to direct then yeah, there's a serious problem. I doubt that's the case, however.

Also, most big time directors get there through decades of fucking work. They prove they can run the show and that they won't fuck up. Women, as has been proven time and again, don't place the same value on making work their sole focus as they do overall happiness/fulfillment. Thus, families, time off, etc. That's probably not conducive to being someone the soulless corporate overlords of Hollywood are going to hand their millions over to to make these films.

Though I'll agree with the idea that there are a lot of guys that seem to get too many chances in Hollywood. At the same time though, I have no idea how some of these women are still in Hollywood either. Kristen Stewart is just awful. Yet she keeps popping up over and over. Hopefully it's the women out there keeping her around. Cause if it's us guys.....shameful.

I will say, this piece is actually kind of sickening. We've got ultra rich, white, Western women talking about how hard they've got it and how unfair their work lives are. Meanwhile there are women being raped in India because some dude they're related to got busy with some other guy's wife. Feminism, a useful philosophy for large swathes of the world, yet only used where it can make entitled women feel like the victim.
