Stephen Bannon says the Ayn Rand/Objectivist school of libertarian economics is disturbing, secularism has made America weak, WW2 was Christians vs atheists, Brietbart is the voice of the anti abortion and traditional marriage movement....

really the Judeo-Christian West versus atheists, right?

So, who were "the Judeo-Christian West" and who were "the atheists" in WW2? Because we fought alongside the USSR, the first state on the planet to make it its ideological goal to wipe out religion and replace it with universal atheism. A state led by a man who almost certainly was an atheist. They even had a word for it, gosateizm.

But we fought against Nazi Germany, a state led by a man whose relationship with Christianity was rocky to say the least. Hitler was raised a Christian, but he was critical of the religion. The Nazi Party endorsed what it called "positive Christianity", its own version of Christianity in which (unsurprisingly) all of its Jewish roots were removed. Hitler referred to himself as a Christian, but also talked about how "Christianity would become obsolete in the political world", and is said to have privately called the religion a disease.

By all accounts, including his own admission, Hitler was a godly man, but considered Christianity "a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle and the survival of the fittest". He believed in God and a god-given duty, but he opposed organized religion, and saw its power as a threat to his all-powerful state.

In his own words:

My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before in the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice.

And in the Nazi Party Programme:

  1. We demand liberty for all religious denominations in the State, so far as they are not a danger to it and do not militate against the morality and moral sense of the German race. The Party, as such, stands for positive Christianity, but does not bind itself in the matter of creed to any particular confession. It combats the Jewish-materialist spirit within and without us, and is convinced that our nation can achieve permanent health from within only on the principle: the common interest before self-interest.

Regardless, the fact remains that there were plenty of atheists, and Christians on both sides. Moreover, WW2 was simply not a religious conflict, and mr. Bannon is a fool.
