Street preacher hit in the back of the head by a teenager with a bat

This is an issue that really gets me emotionally and interests me otherwise. I posted a similar issue to r/rage, you know its controversial when the comments exceed the upvotes. I don't know how it got up to 72% average upvotes, it was getting destroyed, all my comments were in the negatives, most comments were agreeing with her or defending her actions.

As a younger person growing up in a minority household that's strongly religious I've seen the nearly fundamentalist religious views of my older parents and older family be scrutinized and mocked. Though I think much of what they believe is backwards its also sad to see them feel so powerless and ridiculed for something they believe strongly and that motivates them to have unbelievable emotional perseverance through very hard times.

I see nothing wrong with them speaking their minds and advertising the choice to "pray the gay away" and I would guess a lot of modern homosexual people are at most annoyed or interested when they see those signs, like looking at a car crash. My only shaky at best evidence for that is that as a minority racism against Mexicans is mostly just interesting (with varying to no degrees of offense) to me but I look past it to see if there's a deeper point.. usually there isn't but frankly I don't see much blatant racism against Mexicans unless I'm observing in a place I know I'll find racism out of curiosity. I can always shake my head and move on, not like they're my problem.

I think truly only self-righteous assholes get "offended" enough to do stuff like this over such small incidents because they feel the need to act up for the sake of virtue signaling about something they've been led to believe is inherently more dramatic than it can be. Sometimes discrimination is deplorable and obstructive sometimes its a minor, temporary annoyance that you can just move on from like a guy taking a parking space you were clearly waiting for longer.

One of my parents believes homosexuality can have you sent to hell but never voices it; never discriminates because they say it saddens them and they wishes gay people would just "choose" not to be gay to save themselves but in the end its up to God to judge the gay person.

Some bigots really do care and they think they know whats right for people that they don't understand. Its one of the many things in life that (for people of a different opinion) is difficult to put up with, difficult to forgive, and impossible to fully understand.
