Sumlin

But you can't say that Sherman gets the credit for that.

I certainly can. Sherman brought Manziel to A&M and red shirted him in 2011. Manziel enrolled in January 2011 and spent the entire year learning under Sherman. Prior to the start of the 2012 season Manziel spent more time learning under Sherman than he did under Sumlin. You can credit Sumlin for putting Manziel in a position to excel in 2012 but his development at that point was definitely on Sherman. More importantly, name the successful quarterbacks Sumlin has recruited and developed at A&M?

And arguing that Johnny improved his passing numbers because he was running less isn't improvement is kind of silly. Come on, man. We still had a top five offense. What more do you want on that?

He was a dual threat quarterback. He passed for 400 more yards but rushed for 650 fewer yards. Overall he was a better passing QB but only marginally, the numbers are very close. The ranking is high but that's why it's important to look at the numbers. The regression is there, even with Manziel.

The thing people don't realize is that Johnny and Evans helped cover the mass deficiencies that Sherman left and Sumlin has been trying to fix. Sherman left terrible depth on both sides of the ball. Sumlin was able to capitalize on what he was left and use it to start building something.

You're suggesting that the depth was terrible in 2012 but that is the best year Sumlin has had at A&M and it's not even close really. While he has been shoring up the supposed depth issue the team has been regressing every single year. Maybe it's not a depth issue. The defense is improved but one year does not make a trend.
