Terraria: Otherworld update reveals a new development partner

I have been playing Terraria since 1.0, with friends. Me and my friends would always start playing the game again after it got an update. I have played the game from start to full end-game gear about 10 times now, from scratch with friends.

It is fucking amazing how this game has grown. No, you don't understand, even if you think you do, if you haven't played it the way I did. When I played 1.0 -and that was half a decade ago I think, holy shit time passes quick- the end-game gear was the Molten armor. That was the best shit you could do. Your general accessories would go like hermes boots, lucky horseshoe, and the shiny red baloon, and the cloud in a bottle and one random whatever accessory you had. The first 4 were damn necessary due to movement and since there was no way of combining, you had little in options of speccing.

Here come 1.1 (was this when the crimson came or was it 1.2? I don't recall anymore). We are bamboozled. We start the game again, kill that, kill this, get molten gear, and bam, Wall of Flesh. Eventually had to use a wiki because the game was fuuuuuuckiiiing giiiigaaaantic with all the new crap. After the Wall of Flesh, the game felt entirely different. Shit that we had never seen before. All those hard-ass enemies, and our Base getting hallowed, not fun. The mechanical bosses were assmunch incarnate, and all that new gear? It felt like the first time you discovered you could combine accessories. It was basically like getting an entirely new limb or something. The game had basically doubled its life and content, Hardmode was something entirely different from pre-wall of flesh, and it was really amazing. And fucking Tinkerer's Workshop. That was the best thing ever.

And with 1.2, I think that's when plantera and the golem and the other asshats came in? All I remember from 1.2 were the quality of life improvements that made the game much better, such as accesories that can be seen on your character (this wasn't a thing for the longest time), a hook shortcut (that wasn't a thing either iirc), dyes, inventory managament, smart mining and whatnot, chest shortcuts like quick stack and the sort, and of course fucking wings. That was the best shit ever. And the accessory combining from 1.1 was far better now.

And with 1.3 a single playthrough now takes around a 150 hours for the crew, slaying all bosses and building a base. We don't speedrun, but I always look at our steam hours and check how many hours our general playthroughs take until we get the end-game stuff and beat all the bosses and basically do everything the game allows you to do. What used to take around 30 hours in 1.0 started to take 70 hours in 1.1. And 120 in 1.2 while 150 in 1.3. So much content added.

I doubt they can do the same to Otherworld. But the original Terraria will always hold a special place in mah hart and mah sole, and I'll still try it for that game's sake.
