Thanks /r/oculus for lowering my expectations!

We all get it, you are in the honeymoon phase, the wonder is overwhelming.

SDE: The SDE is minimal and way better then DK1/2. But it does still exist. FOV: It is smaller then previous HMDs and the Vive. Red Tint: Is a case-by-case basis, some CV1s are worse than others. God Rays: They exist but are not noticeable in well lit scenes. Play E:D after your honeymoon phase is over, it is present in the ship out in space pretty much constantly.

My point is that when people are criticizing those above issues they are not just making this shit up, they do exist, the difference is you read them as killers to the experience when they are not (mostly, maybe to a few people). To dismiss them as non-issues while you are in your wonderment phase just shows how new and excited you are but in another way ignoring the issues because you are so lost into the wonder/enjoyment. Which is fine but over time many hours of use you will like certain things and not others, it's not something you are going to worry about in your first weeks of use. Also what you see in the Oculus Home Store is curated content for the most part, especially Dream deck, of course those samples are not going to highlight the pitfalls that exist. Another thing is when you come from a DK2 you can easily see the upgrades that CV1 has to offer but some of those upgrades still included a trade-off and people may not like the trade-offs. You probably wouldn't notice the difference because you don't have enough hours in VR and with all the previous HMDs. Not all content shows every pitfall listed.

To quote my girlfriend when I explained and asked her about all these things after she tried Dreamdeck: "what are you talking about? ...that was so cool!"

Well yea she's thrown into an experience doesn't even know what to look for (which she shouldn't be) and is just enjoying the AWE. That should not be a rebuttal to others critics.

TL:DR When your in the honeymoon phase its awesome (shit VR is awesome no doubt about it) but don't go dismissing the people before you with 100s of hours in VR making critics because one day you will see them as well. Also not all content shows every pitfall so it can require hours and many experiences to understand why people critic such a cool tech device.
