TIFU By destroying a 100 year old piece of history 10 sec

And here is what it says without the terrible formatting:

This happened about 20 mins ago...A little back story first. I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. As most of you know, this has been a place of strong US military presence and history for generations, particularly being home to the US Pacific Fleet. Naturally, there are still relics of the past buried in the sands of Oahu's beaches. This morning my friend decided to take his new metal detector out for a walk down the beach. Well he happened to find an old .45 acp casing buried deep in the sand near a reef. After a hours of research, he discovered multiple markings(including a date of course) which I identified it as a REM-UMC .45 acp dated 1918. This model was supposedly a new water/corrosion resistant cartridge issued to pilots specifically in the Pacific to use as emergency ammo if their plane went down, particularly in the ocean. Pretty sweet find as this isnt just from another box of surplus.

So on to my fuck up. Later that night when my bro got back from work, he brought it straight to me, which normally is a good call because I have a love for both firearms and military history. But you see, I have this problem...whenever I find myself holding something delicate, I feel an almost unstoppable urge to put that delicacy to the test. Well my excited friend handed me the casing probably believing I could share his enthusiasm, given my nature. And for the first few seconds I did....and then I felt it. The metal....it was so soft....so weak..........or was it? I couldn't stand it, I had to know, how much could this 100 year old piece of metal handle? So without giving a thought, or realizing that this didn't belong to me and was indeed my friends, I squeezed it between my fingers quite firmly. Then it exploded. Pieces flew in every direction like shrapnel from a grenade. What once was a full length, almost perfectly preserved, casing, was now dirt on my floor. Only the base of the casing remains unharmed. I looked up at my friends face, full of disbelief, pride crushed, and all I could do was laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. I'm an asshole like that XD. Sorry bro, beers on me this weekend.
