TIL cruise ships emissions can equal the equivalent of one million cars per day and air quality on deck can be worse than in the world's most polluted cities.

YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED IF YOU THINK THAT NUCLEAR SHIPS ARE VIABLE IN SUCH A LARGE SCALE. the reddit nuclear circlejerk pisses me off to no end.

can you not imagine the cost of outfitting thousands of ships with nuclear reactors? nuclear power plants that are built on land take years (FUCKING DECADES) to plan and construct. there are all kinds of government and what have you agencies involved. the cost is extreme. congratulations, you just made ships way more expensive and increased planning/construction/certification time by a ton.

in daily operation, costs will skyrocket. you now need nuclear techs on board the ships, and probably safety officers on the ships as well as on land. these all have to be trained to handle a NUCLEAR REACTOR. imagine something breaks on the ship. instead of pulling a piston and changing a cylinder liner in half a day, repairs now take weeks IN WHICH THE SHIP WILL NOT EARN MONEY. spare parts are NUCLEAR GRADE and will cost an extreme amount of money. after repairs everything must be extensively certified. YOU ARE FUCKING INSANE.

now you don't want your ship anymore. in the past before you idiots made all ships nuclear vessels, you could beach your ship in india or pakistan to have it broken apart, and you get some amount of money for scrap. now, you goddamn retards, there is a nuclear reactor in there that has to be decommisioned. and you won't be able to take it to india or pakistan either, because who knows where the fissible material goes. that's going to be expensive. do you have any idea what kind of pain in the ass it is to even get rid of asbestos from ships? nobody wants that shit. now here you are with goddamn radioactive material. good job.

nuclear circle jerkers think they're some kind of visionaries when they can't see futher than their own noses. RETARDS
