TIL Danny DeVito used to be a beautician. He went to New York to learn makeup but the lady he sought after to teach him only accepted students from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. So he enrolled for a semester and that's how he got into acting.

Eh dude I get what you’re going for, but come on. Plenty of people who don’t have the privilege of getting by on their looks still don’t bother to cultivate a genuinely good life. Just looking at another example from show biz, James Corden is apparently an asshole to everyone he works with on set, and he’s no Zac Efron.

Being ruthless is another way to succeed in showbiz if you can’t coast on your looks and that’s obviously not what Danny did either.

Again I get what you were going for, but I think it’s kind of fucked up to hear someone being genuinely praised for decades of being a great dude and saying “Oh well look at him, he HAD to”. He actually didn’t, not even in a business like showbiz, and I think characterizing him as some bootlicker overcompensating for something is just kind of inaccurate.
