Kinda, stars are really interesting in that so many particles and atoms (mostly hydrogen & helium) group together in a cloud. The mass from the cloud creates a gravitational pull bringing the atoms closer and closer. This will cause reactions aka explosions as the helium and hydrogen collide and react with each other, but if the mass is big enough, the gravitational pull will pull against the outward explosions, creating a contained, relatively balanced ball of continuously exploding atoms aka a star. If the mass is too large, the gravitational pull will be stronger than the outward explosive force and continue to reel it in and sometimes even light can't escape the pull, creating a black hole
