U.S. Pours Money Into Chips, but Even Soaring Spending Has Limits

The problem is that even if you pay for the news, theres no assurance that they won't let some private interests buy their coverage, let alone that they will offer relevent news or retain any semblance of journalistic integrity.

News only works if it can be trusted, and it's been a while since theres been any reliable newsources. Shit- even the Onion has accidentally ended up being correct a couple times with their satircal news stories. And web only news sources aren't really worth the same as a newpaper, let alone netflix, ffs.

The only way people'd be willing to "support journalism" en mass would be if there was a transparent organization that operated long enough to develop a reputation for unbiased and informative reporting and the financial transparency to allow for monitoring of their sponsors and backers. And even then, it'd basically be patreon, but for news, so they'd be beholden to the interests of whatever audience they gather first.
